How to Choose A Right Water Bottle
Buying the right water bottle may not be as exciting as finding that new electronic device you've been craving, but it's still a very important choice. In some ways, it may be one of the most important products you buy, as it may be the device you use most often throughout its lifetime.
For adults, the general recommendations from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine are :
11.5 cups (2.7 liters) a day for women
15.5 cups (3.7 liters) a day for men
If you are an athlete, a sports enthusiast or a manual laborer, you will need more water and more glasses to meet a lifetime of water needs.
When you are purchasing a water bottle, we recommend that you determine the type of features you are looking for, as well as the type of materials possible, before you start looking at specific available bottles. Because needs vary, a bottle that is suitable for everyday use may not be the best option for your purchase. Next, we'll start with the three most common materials and compare the advantages and disadvantages of the materials to advise and help you with your water bottle selection.
Plastic
We believe that plastic water bottles offer the best value for money. Using plastic for water bottles offers manufacturers considerable versatility. Plastic bottles can be rigid or collapsible, clear or colored. They can be formed into a wide variety of shapes. One thing that is undoubtedly true is that one of the biggest advantages of plastic water bottles is their low cost of manufacture. While plastic bottles can withstand some impact, they are not 100% durable. It is widely accepted that plastic water bottles have the following advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages
- Lightweight and easy to manufacture
- More durable than glass
- Often less expensive
- Wide variety of designs
- Translucent for better water management
- Ability to freeze water inside
Disadvantages
- Potential health concerns
- Not as durable as metal
- Uses non-renewable resources for production
- Potential environmental pollution issues
Stainless Steel
We believe that the overall experience of stainless steel thermos bottles is the best. Stainless steel water bottles are widely recognized for their excellent durability and insulation performance, while the dents in the metal bottle caused by the crash test also affect their aesthetic properties.
Advantages
- Excellent durability
- Does not pose a health risk
- Heavier than plastic and other materials
- Excellent heat and cold retention
- Metal parts are dishwasher safe and easy to clean (except for vacuum insulated bottles)
Disadvantages
- Heavier than most cup materials
- Special metallic taste and texture
- Prone to dents
Glass
We think the glass bottle is the best drinking experience. There's just something about glass that makes water taste purer, fresher and more well-rounded. In addition, glass is widely accepted as a safe alternative to plastic containers.
Advantages
- Does not pose a health risk
- Great taste
- Transparency is easy to control the amount of water
- Glass components are dishwasher safe and easy to clean
Disadvantages
- The heaviest water bottle material, bulky
- Fragile and a safety hazard
- Cannot be used in extreme temperatures, hot and frozen water can easily explode
Other aspects that should be considered when buying a mug
①Debate on weight
I suggest not getting caught up in the weight of the water bottle. The judgment about the weight is clearer when you start from the actual need of carrying time and whether you need to carry it with you or not.
②Where will you take it?
We should think about where we will take this mug and is the size good enough for you to take it there? If your bottle is used for car travel, make sure it fits in your vehicle's cup holder. If your mug is used for boarding, measure to see if it fits your backpack and your load. The more closely your water bottle fits you, the more places you'll carry it. And, as mentioned earlier, consider the weight if you're going to be carrying it for long distances.
③Is the style to your taste?
The right bottle is an accessory that is better suited for carrying around than any clothing you own - caring about how it looks is essential, especially if it fits your aesthetic and your style.
④Size and shape
The shape of the water bottle depends on the purpose. A water bottle for running should be light enough and slim enough to comfortably hold in your hand or carry with you. A water bottle for hiking should hold enough liquid to be large enough, but if you plan to put it in the side pocket of your pack for easy access, make sure it's long and thin enough to fit down. Once you've determined its use, you'll need to find the right size bottle or volume for your preferred activity. Capacity can be measured in fluid ounces or liters, and usually ranges from 16 to 32 ounces (about half a liter to a liter.) The most recent expert estimates suggest that men should drink about 3.7 liters of water per day, while women should drink about 2.7 liters. During any strenuous physical activity, such as running, you should, as a rule of thumb, drink about 4 to 6 ounces every 20 minutes.
⑤ Spout, nozzle and screw cap
Do you want to drink while hiking without spilling in your face? Do you need space to do some proper filtration? The spout, nozzle & screw cap will be something you want to consider.
The spout is shaped like a cylinder with a small ridge at the top that a person's teeth, lips or fingers can grab and pull upward, releasing the stopper in the middle of the cylinder and when the bottle is opened, water flows out and a person sucks on the spout with the spout minimizing the splash of water. Water bottle nozzles are like short, thick straws attached to the top of a water bottle. They break off downward to close and move upward to open. Like the spout, the nozzle is perfect for reducing splashing. Screw caps are often used on multi-purpose and human task style water bottles where the cap may or may not be attached to the bottle by a thin strip of plastic or fabric.
